Vicryl is Ethicon's brand of a multifilament absorbable suture that is flexible and easy to handle. Thanks to its favourable properties, Vicryl has a very broad range of applications and can be used whenever an absorbable suture is required. After 14 days in vivo, 65% of its initial tensile strength remains, and after 21 days, 40% remains. The suture material is completely absorbed after 50–70 days. Vicryl Plus was the first antibacterial suture to provide active protection against bacterial growth on the suture. It is made from the same material as standard Vicryl and is coated with triclosan, a broad-spectrum antiseptic agent.
